Nairobi

Friday April 10

We hade a lovely meal last night pasta and pizza with a couple of bottles of wine and breakfast was great.

We check out at 9.30 and walk across to the airport. The queue is not long but takes ages to check in. They want to see our Kenya visa, then how long we are staying, how we are leaving Kenya and confirmation of our flights. Even though we each went up as couples to three different check in counters, I ended up sitting next to Karen, Ann next Luggy and Kaye next to Ross!

After check in we go through the nightmare security which takes ages and then we have passport control, by the time all this is done we are all nearly convinced this will be our last long overseas plane journey. Certainly Ann, I, Karen and Ross are convinced cruising is the way to go. We get called to board and then are held up on the bridge for over 15 minutes! However the plane leaves on time and lands pretty much on time. Our pick is waiting outside and we are on our way.

Nairobi is quite a large city with modern buildings interspersed with many poor areas. We arrive at peak time 6 pm (our clocks moved forward a hour). The traffic is very heavy and gridlocked in some places. There appears to be a big gap between the haves and the have nots. Our hotel is a lovely old building, built in 1910 and has some interesting history behind it.

Up early tomorrow at 6.30. We leave for Mt Kenya about a 3.5 hour drive.
