During lunch we hear thunder and it is soon raining. There is a little break but the rain continues until about 3.30. We head off on our game drive with threatening skies and an open top. We find the usual Cape Buffaloes and Hippos, baboons and monkeys. It is cool with spots of rain. Around 5 we come across three lions, one large male and two female. They are hard to see lying down in the grass. They must have had a good feed as the two female are hardly moving. As we are watching a herd of about 10 zebras in single file are walking towards the lions. The lead zebra sniffs the wind and then detours around where the lions are. They still pass within 50 metres of the lions who are oblivious to them.
We stay there for 40 minutes and are rewarded when the two females get up.
One female walks around and looks like she is after something. It is then the male lion moves slightly and puts his paw on what they have been eating as if to say it is all his and don’t even try. Our driver tells us it looks like a warthog carcass, not that there is much left.
It is time to head back as the rain is threatening and it is getting cold. Still manage to see other animals on the way including a troop of 60 or more baboons slowly making their way along the track. As we drive slowly through them they just look at us with disdain
Have another lovely meal tonight which included duck as one of the buffet choices and it was delicious. The food has been great here. Tomorrow bags out at 6.30 and on the road by 7.30 to Masai Mara, a 5 hour drive!
