Early morning start with a game drive at 6.30. Ann and I have our turn in the back row. It is an incredibly bumpy ride. Our first sighting is just after 7 am when a mother Rhino and her calf cross the toad in front of us. See the usual Zebras, Impalas off in the distance. Come across many Cape Buffaloes, some just off the track or crossing the track. See plenty of birds including pelicans, cranes, egrets and flamingos. Nothing exciting like the big cats!
The track we are on ends at the lake but off to the side is a group of Cape buffaloes and three rhinos having a mud bath. On the way we also see a Thompson gazelle. Heading back for a bush breakfast we see a couple of baboons and a few monkeys. Our breakfast is near where we are staying but further up a hill where there are great views over the lake. Tables and chairs have been set with a full on breakfast and champagne! We have free time now until 4 pm when our next game drive begins. Having seen so many wild animals now we are getting a bit picky on how interesting or exciting they are. At the start of our safari we were excited to see anything, but now it’s not another impala, zebra etc.
