Iganyana Camp

 Thursday 2 April

After yesterday’s experience we set off at 7 am. Slept a lot better last night and did not hear any lions or other wildlife. We drive to the wide open area just out the front of the camp where there is a large herd of impala. At breakfast there was a wildebeest right out the front. On the outskirts of the herd there are a couple of jackals. We continue on into the bush but do not find much so we head back to the carcass. There are two new lions there ripping into the carcass. A new male the brother of the other one and the mother from yesterday. Apparently she was part of the pride before she left and that is why she was allowed to eat.

I found out that the family is one litter from the mother, four males and two females, all about 5 years old, too young to confront the bigger males. After satisfying her hunger she will return to her youngsters and continue to teach them how to hunt and when she is satisfied they can do it by themselves leave them. 

Quite an amount of the carcass has been eaten.

We move on and after a while we come upon a herd of Zebras and then a group of Giraffes. One last call on the way home to the carcass and then back to the camp. We have time to relax until our next game drive at 3 pm.
